Let me invite you to turn in your Bibles to Matthew chapter 6. Matthew chapter 6. For a time of study in God's word, this morning, we're continuing with our total devotion series and as we continue in this series, we are picking up yet once again for the second Sunday in Matthew chapter 6, where we're looking at the Lord's prayer and the title of the message this morning is a prayer of total devotion Part 2. Last week, we looked at verses 9 and 10 and today we'll be looking at verses 10 through 15.
In Matthew chapter 6 and verse 9, Jesus, introduces the prayer by saying, pray then in this way, and then he gives us the Lord's Prayer as a model. for us to follow in prayer. he doesn't so much command us to recite this prayer even though reciting the Lord's Prayer is a wonderful thing for us to do. He simply tells us to pray in this way.
In verse 9. In other words, pray according to the pattern that you see demonstrated in what I'm about to say. This is why Martin Luther once said that if you want to learn how to pray, start with the Lord's Prayer and pray through this prayer. Letting each statement or request in this prayer service as an outline point upon which you elaborate as you pray before the Lord.
Having said that, I do feel that it's important to At a caution, I wanna put you all at ease and let that you should not feel like you have to slavishly follow the Lord's Prayer, word for word or even necessarily the order of the Lord's Prayer. whenever you approach God in prayer. There are many other prayers in scripture that we find that are worthy models for us to follow. Some of these prayers are long and some are short....
