Let me invite you to turn in your Bibles to Daniel chapter 6. Daniel. Chapter 6. I'm really excited about this passage that we'll be looking at today because of the encouragement, that it, will be to all of us.
we're doing a verse by verse study through the book of Daniel, and as we continue through this book, we come today to Daniel chapter 6, verse 16, and my goal this morning is to look at verses 16 through 28, through the end of the chapter, and the title of the message is Daniel's God rescues Darius. Daniel's God rescues Darius. we often think of Daniel chapter 6 as telling the story of Daniel's rescue, of God rescuing Daniel from the lion's den, and this chapter certainly contains that story. But a fair read of this chapter reveals that King Darius is the one who seems to need rescuing the most.
For he is the one who foolishly allowed himself to be entrapped by wicked men who sought to exploit his personal vanity with devastating consequences. What's striking about this chapter is that not a word is said anywhere in this chapter about any emotion that Daniel experiences upon being convicted of breaking the law. And being thrown into a lion's den. But in this chapter, and you can look for this in the places that I allude to, we read in verse 14 that Darius was deeply distressed.
In our text today, we will read of Darius spending the night fasting and of his sleep fleeing from him. In verse 20, we will read about him speaking with a troubled voice. And once Daniel is rescued from the lions, we are told how Darius is very pleased. But we will not be told anything anywhere about how Daniel felt personally about anything....
