Well, let me have you guys turn in your Bibles to First Timothy chapter one. For those of you that are visiting with us, we're doing a verse by verse study through the book of First Timothy. And as we continue in our study of this book, we come This morning to First Timothy chapter 1 verse 20, and my goal this morning is to try to capture the essence of what verse 20 teaches us and then to back away from this passage and to address a larger issue that we can then see how Paul's action described in verse 20 fits into that larger picture. And what I want to speak to you guys on based on this text is dealing with sin in another.
In other words, dealing with sin in another person in the church, dealing with sin in other people. I have been attending church since I was a fetus. And my, a number of churches too. My dad was in the Marine Corps, so we moved around every few years from state to state and But every time we would ever move anywhere new, one of the first priorities of my parents was to look for a new church.
And then once they found a new church, they were devoted to being there any time the doors of that church were open. And over the 44 years that I have been attending church, I have seen a lot of sin in other people. I have also seen a lot of sin in me. I have over the length of these years been on the receiving end of many wrongs that have been committed by Christians who are believers in Jesus.
I myself have committed many wrongs that have brought hurt to other believers in the church. I just in my short lifespan have been through two church splits. One of them when I was a kid. That happened all of a sudden....
