Today, I want to speak from a passage very dear to me about a subject which is very challenging, which is forgiveness. And even in Milton's prayer for fathers today. The connections were made between the subject of forgiveness and the thought of Father's Day. For some people, Father's Day is a very happy day.
Some of us have fathers who have loved us. Some of us have fathers who have pointed us to Christ. Some of us as fathers have children who have brought us great joy. But there are hard realities, just like on Mother's Day, similar things happen where there's some who have wanted to be fathers and have never married, or married and couldn't have children, and it can be a hard day.
But even thinking of relationships with fathers, I don't know many of you well on a personal level, but there have been some, there's some people in this room. Who were mistreated by your fathers. And some of you have been mistreated by your fathers perhaps in shameful ways that no one knows about as much as you do. And it's a really hard day, and some of you even have to have relationships with fathers who have never sought your forgiveness and have wronged you.
some of us likewise have children, as Milton prayed for us. I have children whom I love, but they're not walking with the Lord. And so fatherhood is difficult and Father's Day isn't just this cheerful Facebook representation of life is wonderful, which we all try to do on Facebook and Instagram. But there are, are difficult things and then as it comes to forgiveness, some of us have been wronged and even if the other person has sought our forgiveness, it's hard to forgive....
