Well, let me invite you to turn in your Bibles this morning to Genesis. Chapter 16. Genesis chapter 16 for our time of study. In God's word, this morning, we're doing a series to the Book of Genesis as we continue in that study, we come this morning to chapter 16, and my goal today is to cover all of chapter 16, and if you want to give a title to the message, it would be, God helps those.
who've hurt themselves. How many of you have ever hurt yourself and others by sinful choices that you've made? Raise your hand. Every head bowed, every eye closed.
OK. I see those hands. my hand is up, as well. There's a wonderful message in this passage that for those of us that have made such choices and maybe are even living inside the consequences of those choices today, God is a God who helps us.
We've all heard the statement that God helps those who help themselves, right? many people believe that that statement is in the Bible, but it is not. Actually, what is taught in the Bible is the opposite, and that is what the Bible teaches is God saves those who cannot help themselves and who are willing to admit Their helplessness. Paul tells us in Romans 5 that it was while we were helpless....
