, anyway, let me have you guys turn in your Bibles to 1 Timothy chapter 51 Timothy. Chapter 5 for. Our time of study in the word this morning, for those of you that are visiting with us, we're doing a verse by verse study through the book of First Timothy. And as we continue in our study of this book, we're just going on a verse at a time.
Whatever God wants to say to us, we're gonna let him say it. This is the church God is describing how to do church, and he's saying, this is the church that I want to attend. Survey me and ask me what I'm interested in. And God spends a significant amount of time in this section talking about elders and the way that they need to behave.
If you want to give a title to the message this morning, it would be Preventing Scandal. Preventing Scandal. In the leadership. God is saying in this passage, the church I want to attend is the church where scandals are not caused by the elders, by the pastors, by the leadership of the church.
In fact, one of the things that I've noticed about this particular book or this section of First Timothy. is that when you come to verse 17, it seems like this section's going to be about telling the people of God to honor elders, and how to go about doing that. But as you get further into this section of verses 17 through 25, you begin to realize Actually, it's not really primarily about telling God's people how to honor elders. In fact, I'll just say it this way....
