Having said that, let me have you guys turn in your Bibles to 1 Timothy chapter 3. 1 Timothy chapter 3 for our time of study. In God's word this morning, we're doing a verse by verse study through the book of First Timothy, and as we continue in our study of this book we come this morning to chapter 3, verse 2. We've already begun wading into verse 2, and my goal originally today was to get all the way through verse 2.
It turns out we're going to get almost to the end. Of verse 2 and the title of the message this morning is what God requires of your pastors. What God requires of your pastors. ultimately there's a list of, I think, 15 things that God requires of those that are serving as your pastors, and today, by the time we're done this morning, we will have looked at 6 of those, those things.
Remember that pastors are elders, elders are overseers. All of those terms are synonymous. Paul in verse 1 and 2 uses the term overseer, but we know that he's talking about pastors and. Overseers, shepherds, elders, all of those terms are interchangeable.
In Acts chapter 20, as well as in First Peter chapter 5. We've talked about this previously. I won't belabor that point, but what God requires of your pastors now. Here's how I want to introduce this....
