Well, this morning, the, the title of our message is Why Saints Still needed the Friend of Sinners. We're gonna be looking at various passages, but the Friend of sinners is a title that was actually given to Christ, by his enemies. Look, as he's quoting, Christ is quoting back to them, look a glutton and a wine bibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners. If you were to do a, a Google search or look on YouTube, asking the question, why do Christians sin after their conversion, you're gonna get a whole plethora of articles and videos and responses.
In fact, if you survey church history, you're gonna find all kinds of different responses to that question as to why is it. That people who name the name of Christ, why is it that people are who are allegedly new creations, who've been washed in the fountain of the blood of Christ, who've been given a new heart, who've been buried and raised, raised with Christ, why is it that we still sin? And my guess would be that many of you, if not all of you, this last week or this last month, could probably recall some time in your life where you sinned, perhaps you were even having family devotions with your family and, and the children were not cooperating and you Sinn. Perhaps right out of your quiet time, you went out of your quiet time just having rehearsed the scriptures and you fell into some sin.
Perhaps you were trying to have a conversation with your wife or a family member and it started out well, but then it ended in sin. Why is it that people who are called children of God, who are called saints still continue to sin? And the church has given various responses to that question over the years. There's the monastic solution.
The monastic solution was, is the problem is, is we just need to isolate ourselves and get away from the world, get away from everybody else. If we can just get out into the desert like Saint Anthony, then everything will be gravy, but that solution has failed. Then there's the motinous solution under Chertullian that basically said the church has grown carnal, and what we need is fresh revelation of the Holy Spirit. If we can just get fresh revelation, then we can begin to overcome this sin problem amongst saints....
