, let me invite you to turn in your Bibles to John chapter 13. John 13 for our time of study in God's word, this morning. This is the 3rd and final part of our trilogy on the subject of courtesy. And service we saw two weeks ago the story of the feeding of the 5000 where Jesus miraculously provided one meal to 5000 men plus women and children.
No one would have died if they did not receive this meal. Everyone in this crowd was at least maybe an hour away from being able to go and get their own meal. They had the resources to do that. But even though this was not absolutely essential, Jesus seizes the opportunity to demonstrate the greatness of his heart through this act of courtesy, this meal that comes to them courtesy of Jesus.
Last week, we looked in John 2 at the story, where Jesus is at a wedding feast, a wedding reception, and he miraculously turns water into wine. We were struck by how he went about doing this miracle in a deferential, humble way. We were also struck by the miracle he did and the fact that he deemed this worthy of a miracle. They ran out of wine at the wedding.
There had been wine there, but they were out of wine. No one would have died if they were not resupplied with wine. All that would have happened is people might have been a little more thirsty than they would have wanted, and the groom would have been. Socially embarrassed....
