Last Sunday, we finished our study of John 3 and 4, and we ended in chapter 4 by looking at a man, a royal official, who, came to Jesus and interceded with Jesus on behalf of his, on behalf of his son who was dying. And he obtained from Jesus, a healing for his, son. And so we tried to learn some things about just this man as a dad interceding on behalf of this child that he loved. In the sermon last week, we made reference to the story in Matthew 15 of the Syro Phoenician woman, who also came to Jesus on behalf of her daughter, And sought to obtain healing from Jesus on her behalf.
We made quick reference to that, and made a few quick points. And then we moved on. What I want to do today is I want to spend the entirety of our time together in the word inside of this story of this woman who came to Jesus on behalf of her, her daughter. and I'm not sure what we're going to do for Father's Day, but it's possible for Father's Day, we're going to look at the story of the centurion who came to Jesus on behalf of a beloved servant in the household, and try to fit all of those together, just the theme of pleading with God, pleading with Jesus on behalf of those whom we love.
We have a number of People in our church whose hearts are heavy, whose hearts are breaking as they intercede with God on behalf of those whom they love, be it a parent or a spouse, or in many cases pleading with God on behalf of their children who do not know the Lord or who are away from the Lord and rebellion against Him. And a number of our people have been praying for months and even years, and I think by looking at these stories in the gospel accounts there's a lot of encouragement and a lot of perspective that we can gain from these incidences as we find them in the Gospels. So for today we're going to look at Matthew 15:21 to 28, and if you want to give a title to the message, it would be A Mom obtains deliverance for her daughter. A mom obtains deliverance for her daughter.
Let me begin reading this in verse 21. And Jesus went away from there and withdrew into the district of Tyre and Sidon, and a Canaanite woman from that region came out and began to cry out, saying, Have mercy on me, Lord, son of David. My daughter is cruelly demon possessed. But he did not answer her a word, and his disciples came and implored him, saying, Send her away because she keeps shouting at us....
