, well, let's, let's get into this morning's message, which is a Father's Day message that we're entitling Children and their fathers. You can open up to Ephesians chapter 6. We'll be looking at verses 1 to 4. Let me just read the text for you from my copy of God's word.
I'm reading from the ESB. Children, obey your parents and the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother. This is the first commandment with a promise that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Let's pray. Lord, we ask that You would open up our minds by your Spirit to understand the text that is before us, and that you would fill us with your Spirit as we seek to obey it. Help each one of our fathers in their duty and role and privilege.
Help each of our children as they seek to obey their parents in your strength in Christ's name we pray. Amen. This is a book called Ephesians. Paul is writing this book to a colony or an area of the Roman Empire, and it would be good for us to know a little bit about the state of the family in Ephesus or in the Roman Empire in general to understand this text....
