Turn with me to the book of Numbers chapter 13. Today I want to explore a passage of scripture that illustrates this fight of faith. Numbers 13. So I want to give just a little bit of background to the book of Numbers and in some ways I, I appreciate that you guys have been going through the book of Genesis, so some of this will be really fresh to you.
The book of Numbers actually really begins there with the promise that God made to Abraham about the land of Canaan. Genesis 12 records, when they came to the land of Canaan, Abraham passed through the land. And skipping ahead says, then the Lord appeared to Abraham and said, to your offspring, I will give this land. This promise is repeated to Isaac in Genesis 26 and to Jacob in Genesis 35.
Then through Moses to all the Israelites, nearly 400 years later, after the promises initially made. God reiterates the promise and says, I promise that I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Parasites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land flowing with milk and honey. So that's the beginning really of Numbers, the context there. When we get to Exodus, it records the formation of the people of Israel into a theocratic nation.
In which the promise of the, of the land is repeated no less than 7 times. So you imagine you're the Israelites. This has got to be on the front of your mind. It has been repeated over and over again....
