OK, so last week, Pastor Milton introduced the Psalms and he set the bar really high. It's a tough act to follow, and so I will attempt to follow the act, but in that message, we were encouraged to cherish the Psalms. And so today, we're gonna take a look at Psalm 23. Now, I know that you are familiar with the Psalm.
It is referred to at funerals and you may recall Psalm 23 being read during the memorial service of a loved one. A couple of days ago, Pastor Milton read Psalm 23 during Marlene Brugge's memorial service. President Bush recited part of the Psalm when he addressed the nation on September 11, 2001. We have watched funeral scenes from movies or television shows in which we hear the minister saying, The Lord is my shepherd.
Believers and non-believers alike are able to quote from this Psalm. Last Sunday, one of our care groups together quoted the entire Psalm from memory. And so today, we're gonna invest our time meditating on this familiar psalm. I want to ask you to turn in your Bible then to Psalm 23 and before diving into the Psalm, there are a few points that I think bear mention.
Psalm 23 is structured around two metaphors. In verses 1 through 4, the Lord is a shepherd, and in verses 5 through 6, we see the Lord as our host. The psalm begins with tranquility, progresses toward trial. And it ends in triumph....
