The title of this morning's message is the Messy Business of Covenant Keeping. We'll be looking at 2 Samuel 21. And our outline this morning is probably the simplest outline I've ever had for any sermon I've ever preached. It's basically we're gonna read God's word, pray over God's word, introduce God's word, explain God's word, and apply God's word.
That's the outline. Let's go ahead and read God's word together. 2 Samuel 21, starting in verse 1. Now, there was a famine in the days of David for 3 years, year after year, and David inquired of the Lord.
And the Lord answered, It is because of Saul and his blood guilt in his house. Because he killed the Gibeonites. So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now, the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but were the remnant of the Amorites.
The children of Israel had sworn protection to them, but Saul had sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah. Therefore, David said to the Gibbonites, what shall I do for you? And with what shall I make atonement that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord. And the Gibeonites said to him, we will have no silver or gold from Saul, or from his house, nor shall you or shall we kill any man in Israel....
