The title of the message is Answers to Questions regarding marriage and divorce. Answers to questions regarding marriage and divorce, part 3. And, just by way of review in verses 10 and 11, look at what Paul says. He says, but to the married I give instructions, not I, but the Lord, and here's the instruction that the wife should not leave her husband.
But if she does leave, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And that the husband should not divorce his wife. Basically, what Paul says at the beginning of verse 10, he's saying, I'm going to give instructions, and by the way, the word that is translated instructions in verse 10 is actually the word that means command. It's a military term.
It's the thing that a general would give to the soldiers who are under him. And Paul is saying, I'm going to give some commands. In other words, these are dogmatic commands that need to be followed, and then he says, but not I really. I know that some of you in the Corinthian church are not going to like what I'm going to say.
but Paul says you need to know that what I'm about to say is not coming from me, it is coming from Jesus. I am drawing these instructions from the body of teaching that Jesus gave when he was upon the earth some years ago, and the net result of what Jesus said about marriage and about divorce and about marriage. On the other side of divorce, based upon the substance of what Jesus taught regarding these matters. Here is what I am saying to you, and what Jesus is saying to you, and how that applies to your situation, and that is Paul says that a wife should not leave her husband....
